Resumo

A doença articular degenerativa (DAD) ou osteoartrose (OA) é uma doença comum entre os cães e se caracteriza por ser progressiva, minimamente inflamatória e com alterações neoproliferativas não-neoplásicas, o que causa disfunções consideráveis em todas as estruturas articulares com seu posterior fracasso. Os animais afetados apresentam manqueira, relutância em se mover após o repouso e dificuldade em realizar certas atividades, sendo estes os primeiros sinais comuns. O resultado destas doenças pode ser agravado por: obesidade, predisposição genética, idade ou trauma. Seu diagnóstico é baseado na anamnese, na história do paciente, no exame físico e radiográfico. Os tratamentos OA podem ser cirúrgicos ou conservadores, dependendo do caso, e visam aliviar o desconforto e retardar o desenvolvimento de mudanças degenerativas, sendo impossível reverter às mudanças patológicas existentes.
