Focus and Scope

Environmental Smoke is a peer-reviewed interdisciplinary scientific journal, involving the interrelationship of the human being and the environment around him.


Peer Review Process

Blind assessment

It is the process by which each manuscript is evaluated by two or more expert referees in the field. The files submitted are evaluated without identification of authorship by the evaluators designated by the editors.

Environmental Smoke uses a standard evaluation sequence that each evaluator follows, making the observations inherent to the submitted article. In this one are evaluated title, content, cited bibliographies, among other important points.

If the article is accepted with modifications, the corresponding author must meet the requirements of the evaluators, within an estimated period of 2 to 4 weeks, at the discretion of the reviewers. The estimated time between submission and publication is 6 to 10 weeks.

Cases of controversy are dealt with individually, with the analysis of the editorial team.

The journal has internal and external reviewers.

- Manuscripts are evaluated according to the following mandatory items:

1) Correct number of pages for the type of manuscript to be submitted;

2) Citations in the text are correctly in the references section, and vice versa;

3) Compliance with ethical standards;

4) Originality of the manuscript, with plagiarism detection;

5) Topic of relevance in the area in which the manuscript fits;

6) Obeying the structure according to the section Guidelines for Authors;

7) Abstract with introduction structure, methodology, results, discussion and conclusion;

8) References according to the recent norms of the Brazilian Association of Technical Norms (ABNT).



The Journal is published four-monthly (April, August and December), and manuscripts may be submitted at any time.


Free Open Access Policy

Environmental Smoke offers immediate free access to its contents (without requiring payment to the authors), following the principle that making scientific knowledge freely available.

All manuscripts are licensed under a Creative Commons - Atribuição 4.0 Internacional.


Ethical procedures

All manuscripts submitted to the Journal 'Environmental Smoke' should agree according to scientific ethical conduct.

This journal follows the ethical standards recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

Research conducted with biological material or with human beings requires proof of approval from the ethics committee of the responsible government agency.

Manuscripts submitted with recognised plagiarism or which do not comply with scientific ethical standards will be automatically rejected.

Environmental Smoke is signer of "The Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA)" (https://sfdora.org/), which encourage all individuals and organizations who are interested in developing and promoting best practice in the assessment of scholarly research. 

Environmental Smoke is on the list of internationally recognized journals with excellent publication quality, being part of the "ICI Journals Master List database", from the Copernicus indexer. This indexer performs its evaluation with a multidimensional parametric analysis, checking the editions published so far, and also noting that the journal adopts rules of anti-predatory policy.


History of the journal

Environmental Smoke appeared on May 12, 2018, in João Pessoa municipality, State of Paraíba, Northeast Brazil.

The name refers to the smoke emitted by an erupting volcano, in which gases represent knowledge (in all areas), which spread throughout the globe to the entire world society.
