The diagnosis must be made through visual inspection and careful palpation of the scrotum. A male cat, six months old, SRD, weighing 2.7 kg, was seen at a Veterinary Clinic in Arapiraca/AL, weighing 2.7 kg, for a routine medical consultation. Upon palpation, when walking the physical examination, it was observed that the patient did not have testicles in the scrotum. The treatment of choice for cryptorchidism in this case was bilateral castration, mainly due to the fact that the pathology is hereditary. The occurrence of bilateral cryptorchidism is not common in cats, being of multifactorial etiology little described in this species due to the absence of clinical signs, compromising the animal's fertility, passing unnoticed by the owner and being little discussed in the literature.
José Andreey Almeida Teles, Gil Dutra Furtado Copyright (c) 2022 Gil Dutra Furtado, José Andreey Almeida Teles https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://environmentalsmoke.com.br/index.php/EnvSmoke/article/view/123 Sat, 30 Apr 2022 00:00:00 +0000 TUBERCULOSIS IN THE CITY OF JUAZEIRO DO NORTE-CE, BETWEEN THE YEARS 2010 TO 2020 https://environmentalsmoke.com.br/index.php/EnvSmoke/article/view/160
Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis Zopf, 1883 and is estimated to be responsible for about 1.9 million deaths worldwide. In Brazil, every year 70,000 people are infected and 4,500 die. Thus, the objective was to investigate the epidemiological profile of those affected by tuberculosis in Juazeiro do Norte-CE, between 2009 and 2019. This was an epidemiological, retrospective, analytical, documentary, ecological and quantitative study using secondary data from the “Departamento de Informática do Sistema Único de Saúde” (DATASUS). The variables analyzed were year, sex, age group, ethnicity, education and area of residence. 1,093 cases of tuberculosis were found, with 2019 being the most prevalent. The epidemiological profile of those affected was predominantly men (67.9%), aged 20 to 59 years (69.6%), brown (75.5%), with low education (35.4%) and living in urban area (92.6%). These data can be used for the creation of public policies aimed at serving the population most susceptible to tuberculosis in the city.
Wagner Bernardo Silva, Beatriz Maria da Conceição Murilo, Cassiano Augusto Oliveira da Silva Copyright (c) 2022 Wagner Bernardo Silva, Beatriz Maria da Conceição Murillo, Cassiano Augusto Oliveira da Silva https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://environmentalsmoke.com.br/index.php/EnvSmoke/article/view/160 Sat, 30 Apr 2022 00:00:00 +0000 PAIN MANAGEMENT IN DOGS WITH OSTEOARTHROSIS https://environmentalsmoke.com.br/index.php/EnvSmoke/article/view/151
Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD) or Osteoarthrosis (OA) is a common disease among dogs and is characterized by being progressive, minimally inflammatory and with non-neoplastic neoproliferative alterations, which causes considerable dysfunction in all joint structures with its subsequent failure. Affected animals present lameness, reluctance to move after rest and difficulty in performing certain activities, these being the earliest common signs. The outcome of these diseases can be aggravated by: obesity, genetic predisposition, age or trauma. Its diagnosis is based on anamnesis, patient history, physical and radiographic examination. OA treatments can be surgical or conservative depending on the case and aim to relieve discomfort and delay the development of degenerative changes and it is impossible to revert to existing pathological changes.
Fernanda de Cássia Pereira Barros, Felipe Eduardo da Silva Sobral, Soraya Abrantes Pinto de Brito, Gutemberg da Silva Lima, Grazielly Diniz Duarte, Gil Dutra Furtado Copyright (c) 2022 Gil Dutra Furtado, Felipe Eduardo da Silva Sobral https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://environmentalsmoke.com.br/index.php/EnvSmoke/article/view/151 Sat, 30 Apr 2022 00:00:00 +0000 THE USE OF VETERINARY MACROSCOPIC ANATOMY AS AN EDUCATIONAL INSTRUMENT IN ELEMENTARY AND HIGH SCHOOL IN BRAZIL https://environmentalsmoke.com.br/index.php/EnvSmoke/article/view/146
This paper deals with veterinary macroscopic anatomy as an educational tool in elementary and high school in Brazil and the way it is taught in Brazilian public schools. The main objective is to know the development of macroscopic teaching in basic education, in order to demonstrate the relevance of knowing the anatomy of animals in practice. It is known that the teaching of both human and animal anatomy is linked to the teaching of the biological sciences, however, we realize that the teaching / learning of these students have been insufficient, as they present practical classes associated with the lack of interest of macroscopic anatomy, and there is also a certain indifference on the part of teachers and the institution itself to provide resources that lead teachers to bring knowledge from theory to practice. This study is evidenced by the qualitative character, removing from the objective of the research the answer to the above problematizing question.
Gil Dutra Furtado, Erypaula Josefa Gonçalo do Nascimento Fernandes, Grazielly Diniz Duarte, Gabrielly Diniz Duarte, Felipe Eduardo da Silva Sobral Copyright (c) 2022 Gil Dutra Furtado, Erypaula Josefa Gonçalo do Nascimento Fernandes, Grazielly Diniz Duarte, Gabrielly Diniz Duarte, Felipe Eduardo da Silva Sobral https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://environmentalsmoke.com.br/index.php/EnvSmoke/article/view/146 Sat, 30 Apr 2022 00:00:00 +0000 REBEL GOVERNMENT AND CIVILIAN RESISTANCE https://environmentalsmoke.com.br/index.php/EnvSmoke/article/view/190
Cañón de las Hermosas is located in a buffer zone of the Páramos Complex of the National Natural Park of the same name, located on the eastern flank of the Cordillera Central, in the Andean Region of Colombia. Several of the most recurrent symptoms in the diagnosis of civil war in the country were concentrated there: poverty and inequality, state precariousness-weakness, social and territorial control by armed groups, disputes over illegal rents derived from the cultivation and trafficking of illicit drugs (ECHANDÍA CASTILLA, 1996, 2000; APONTE GONZÁLEZ, 2019; OBSERVATORIO DE PAZ Y DERECHOS HUMANOS, 2020a, 2020b). This extensive zone was catalogued as one of the sanctuaries of the FARC guerrillas, which guaranteed security, collected taxes, administered justice and regulated coexistence efficiently and effectively through punishments, fines and executions. This happened, particularly with the protection of the environment, a phenomenon that comes close to what DÁVALOS calls "conservation at gunpoint" (DÁVALOS, 2001; CENTRO DE ESTUDIOS REGIONALES, 2020b).

After the weakening of the guerrilla by the pacification operations during the 2000s, this conservation work was left in the hands of the civilian population, who denounced the destruction of fragile ecosystems due to the militarization of the territory, and particularly, the construction of a hydroelectric dam in the Amoyá river, in the heart of the Hermosas Canyon. In my work I argue that the Observatorio de Derechos Humanos para la Protección del Medio Ambiente and Mesa de la Transparencia del Cañón de las Hermosas can be characterized as civil resistance mechanisms, conceived with the objective of protecting the population and the environment (TAFUR VILLAREAL, 2021). Community preferences are explained by the degree of social cooperation expressed from the mobilization (protest) and organization capacities, which allowed them to join all the autonomous community spaces of the village of Las Hermosas in a social platform for direct and indirect dialogue with institutional and political actors (among which are included the armed, legal and illegal ones).

At the methodological level, the research design and methods integrated fieldwork and archival review with qualitative analysis, and included field interviews, documentary and archival review.
Andrés Tafur Villarreal Copyright (c) 2022 Andrés Tafur-Villarreal https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://environmentalsmoke.com.br/index.php/EnvSmoke/article/view/190 Sat, 30 Apr 2022 00:00:00 +0000
